Deep Zone

I recently read a book called Deep Zone by Tim Green. Ty Lewis is a 12-year-old football player who is a standout wide receiver in his youth league. His older brother Thane plays for the New York Jets and Ty is the ball boy. When Thane suffers a serious leg injury, Ty’s life gets turned upside down. Ty and his brother have survived a lot.  Their parents were killed in a car accident, and then the two became unintentionally involved in a mob gambling scheme when their Uncle Gus passed inside information from the Jets on to the mob, the D’Amico gang. Ty learns that he may be in danger from these mobsters.  To add to his stress, Ty is also trying to earn a spot on a team headed to a 7 on 7 tournament scheduled to play as an opener for the upcoming Super Bowl. Troy White, of the Football Genius story, is also in this story as well, and he is a star youth quarterback who can predict plays before they happen. Troy has his own issues with his greedy father, who abandoned Troy and who is a criminal who is hiding from the FBI.. His father’s sudden appearance causes Troy a lot of grief.
From the moment these two football stars cross paths, Troy and Ty kept an eye on each other. Troy is suspicious of Ty’s interest in his friend Tate, while Ty worries his speed will never be a match for Troy’s game smarts.Throughout the tournament, both Ty’s and Troy’s teams keep winning until both make it to the championship game. Then things get really bad on the night before the big game. The two boys are kidnapped by two of the D’Amico gang members and they eventually learn that they are actually cousins. Troy’s dad is involved with the kidnappers. He hopes that by keeping Troy away from the super bowl, the Atlanta Falcons will lose without Troy’s help. If this happens Troy’s dad will make a lot of money and be able to disappear forever. The boys try to escape with the help of Troy’s friend, Tate. While escaping, they are all caught. Later on, Troy’s dad frees all three kids, but Troy breaks his ankle during the escape. The kids are safely returned and Troy’s dad disappears again. Finally, with Troy on crutches, Ty’s team wins the tournament on a last second play.
Deep Zone is another great, easy read from author Tim Green. There is plenty of football action and a lot more to keep anyone interested from the beginning to the end of the book.  It has awesome settings, compelling characters, and high-stakes action, both on and off the field. There is suspense throughout the book that will make you want to keep reading.
